Tawanna Preston joined Ginnie Mae in
April 2016 as the Senior Vice President of Management Operations. In this role,
she will be responsible for managing, overseeing and executing Ginnie Mae’s
human resources function, operations management, procurement, and for
identifying and executing process improvements to these functions.
Prior to joining Ginnie Mae, Tawanna served as Executive Operations Officer
for the Office of the Secretary, where she managed, oversaw, and executed its
critical business areas and operations, including budget, human capital,
procurement and contracting, information technology, facilities, and issues
related to equal employment opportunity. Tawanna also served as Allotment Holder
for the seven offices in the Executive Office and supervises career staff in the
Office of the Secretary.
Tawanna has over 25 years of experience with public and assisted housing
programs, which includes work in Section 8, Public Housing, the HOPWA program,
Supportive Housing, Homelessness, Continuum of Care, Fair Housing, Public
Housing Advocacy, and Disaster Assistance. Prior to her career in housing,
Tawanna worked as a research scientist, studying the effects of radiation on
micro-electronic devices for space application at the Naval Research Laboratory.
Tawanna is a graduate of the Partnership for Public Service's Excellence in
Government Fellows program. She holds a master's degree in Regional Planning
from Cornell University and two bachelor's degrees in Physics and Engineering
Physics from Morgan State University. She has authored and co-authored five
scientific publications and was featured amongst 100 black scientists and
engineers in a national exhibit entitled "Black Achievers in Science", sponsored
by the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry.
